The overall composition evoked memories of the classic golden age of animation, and the careful use of negative space in the staging was fantastic. You've clearly mastered the principals of animation and character design. The minimalist approach to sound design provides an excellent contrast to the busy and confusing world you've created for your characters. I found the story to be both heartwarming and inspiring, illustrating the true ingenuity and perseverance of the human spirit, reminding us all that solution to our many problems can be found within ourselves. I hope this film will continue to find an audience for generations to come, as it offers an unparalleled glimpse into the struggles and trials inherent in the human condition. As a concept and display of artistic talent, this piece stands head and shoulders above the competition, and I commend you for pouring the blood, sweat and tears into the completion of this masterpiece!

Pretty good.

Good flash, nice animation, good visual storytelling, also you created a really great atmosphere. Particularly creative is the part with the weird creature that's points the way, I liked that. Also the effect where the ghost goes through the wall was cool...

One gripe: The lettering used for the opening credits comes off looking kinda cheap and amateurish. I dunno how else to explain, but I think some plain ol' text (rather then all "3-D" and shiny) might look better...you know, 'less is more' kinda thing.

And, like everyone else said, why'd that dude wanna steal the pumpkin? Heh, good flash though...

WhiteLightning responds:

Thanks, I'll take the text thing into consideration in the future. And yeah, formulate your own opinions about the hunchback guy, I just kinda overlooked that part.

Yeah...

Yah, this is great, voice acting and art is really funny.

peixeaquatico responds:

yeah !!

Awesome & creepy...

Dang, this is really great. Awesome idea, and well animated. The landscape and clouds create a nice desolate atmosphere, and the music adds a chaotic feel. Very good for Halloween...

MarcK responds:

Huzzah for halloween!
Thanks a buttload.

Chuckle

Ya, that was amusing.
And it wasn't that bad or offensive, I dunno what people's deal is.
Just cuz it's front page, probly suprised em a bit.
Like you said, there's much worse on Newgrounds.
This actually reminds me of an old 50's propaganda movie called "Boy's Beware" (look it up on youtube) where they equate homosexuality to pedohilia.

RSQViper responds:

Yeah, people are jumping up and down over nothing, really. This is pretty tame and I actually don't 'show' anything too disturbing. I just hint at it (albeit strongly).

Why this rocks (and mainstream animation sucks!)

Absolutely great.
Just look at the reveiws for this one, they all rave, 5/5 10/10 every time. And for good reason. Brackenwood is a fantastic and imaginative place! This is what people want in an animated film: IMAGINATION. Anything can happen in an animated film, so why wouldn't you take advantage of that? And what would be the fucking point of creating, oh say, animated television shows that take place entirely AT SCHOOL, and consist of nothing that couldn't be done in real life?!?!!
Ah, but I've gotten off track...

This is what I love to see! Beautiful artwork that moves in a creative and appealing way, adding so much to the personality and mood of every character and effect! THIS is what the Disney/Dreamworks shot-callers need to focus on, not "X-tReMe sPoRtZ MoNtAgEs" or "Hilarious Movie Spoofs!" or any of other sort of pop-culture GARBAGE!

...but right, back to Water Lollies. It looked great. It moved great. And it sounded great! A beautiful score that perfectly accentuated the scene! The lack of dialogue is to be commended, for visual story telling is so much more engrossing! In fact, for a second I felt like I had taken a step back in time before the days of HIT RADIO SINGLES as background music, and CELEBRITY VOICES endlessly spouting the ripped-straight-out-of-The-Simpson's dialogue driven humor that could just as easily be heard on the radio than seen on the screen!!!

Ugh...but right, the review. Just amazing. 10/10 5/5 Great Job!
(AND FOR ALL YOU FUCKIN MAINSTREAM ANIMATION PRODUCERS OUT THERE, YOU NEED TO GET YOUR FUCKING ACT TOGETHER!!!)

chluaid responds:

RIGHT ON! *shakes fist at mainstream animation producers*.
I promise I won't use a mainstream hit single as a Brackenwood soundtrack. Cheers mate :D
